Electricity Rates To Soar

We were informed that our electric rates could rise 10% Jan. 1st,2007. That would increase our bill at the Reading Senior High School by at least $300 per month.

This is another reason our Energy Committee will become vital to the district in the future.

Evidence of the last election proved that. Mr Boscov has only backed one Republican that I'm aware of (Senator Arlen Specter)

Follow the Money Trail

Where are the campaign contributions from ? When the contributions start exceeding $500 be very cautious as to why?

Remember, $5,000 went to Feel -Good Mayor McMahon from Kevin ( Gas Thief) Timochenko!

Our City Reading has several people on it's board that ring a bell: Former Mayor Joesph Eppihimer, Mayor Tom McMahon,Ken Christian,Michael Roeburg,Sandy Solomon, and Dr. Thomas Chapman to name a few. Why does Mr. Boscov have certain people on this board?

Elsa city police officer pleads guilty to accepting money to protect DrugLord

McAllen,Tx- A former Elsa City police officer was convicted of using his official position as an officer of the Elsa police Department to protect a vehicle loaded with narcotics in exchange for money,U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.

At a hearing held shortly before noon today,Herman Carr,45, of Donna, Texas pleaded guilty to the one-count indictment admitting he received approximately $5,000 from an FBI cooperative witness in exchange for using his position as a police officer to provide protection for a vehicle he believed to be transporting five kilograms of cocaine on Aug. 1,2006.U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa found Carr guilty of the federal offense and set sentencing for Jan.19,2007.Carr faces a maximum punishment of 20 years in federal prison without parole, and a $250,000 fine. The court has permitted Carr to remain on bond pending the sentencing hearing.

The prosecution is the result of an investigation conducted by the McAllen office of the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jan McAlister, and Jimmy Leo are prosecuting the case.

Tax on Dreams

I had a dream the other night. When I woke up, I realized that city council and the Mayor of Reading now want to tax us a few more times. It made me sick.

Why not cut taxes instead of raising them? Then we wouldn't be able to have more Feel good government! Does it really matter?

I think they lay awake at night thinking of a different way to TAX us! I rather have to pay less tax and have a lean city council and Mayor.

Mr. Mayor, How do you feel ? You looked a little yellow in the Reading Eagle the other day. I'm hopefull your not feeling bad. Maybe, the next Tax will be on my Dreams.

Grant For $30,000

Feel good government at it's finest hour: Taxpayer monies to decide where to move the baseball stadium. It doesn't take rocket science to figure that the river will flood again. Then we can use more taxpayer monies to figure out why city officials could be this stupid.

The $30.000 could be spent on bringing back the police dogs. ( Common sense please )

Comment that was posted to my Blog regarding Transfer Tax is cute. Why do Left Wing Liberals always need to spend and not save?

Dear city council and Mayor McMahon, Why not stop city owned vehicles from leaving our city and going across state lines ? Why not use GPS tracking and let City Council see where these city owned cars are at all times? Remember, It's a great day in the neighborhood!

Common sense please, Just think a little, you might even be surprised at what you come up with.

Heating System At Riverside

Over $ 1,000,000 was spent on a new boiler at Riverside Elementary. Problems still exist, such as not having a balanced system, high Temperatures, and bad dampers.

Remember, Keith Stamm's questions (1) When did Pagoda Electrical get into the Heating business? (2) Why didn't the Reading School District have more then one contractor bid on this work?

The Question I have for the future is,Why can't we have a committee review all major bids?

Mayor sets poor example

Editor:
Concerning the story"Mayor says passion led him to tear down signs"
( Reading Eagle,Nov3)
It's no wonder that Reading is 21st in the nation for crimes. I guess the mayor didn't think his crime should be a statistic, either. What example is that setting? If I say, "it was pure passion,"can I commit any crime I wish ?

If he felt that others were defacing property by taking down his signs, he has a legal remedy to find the individuals and press charges against them. Does the mayor feel he's above the law and that he can take matters into his own hands?
Would that work for me? Somehow I doubt it.
James R. Lawley was correct when he said he would be prosecuted if the mayor found him taking down signs.
With crime at an all-time high and the police and district attorney's office stretched to the very maximum ,it is sad that the mayor decided to add to the city's burden.
Doesn't he understand democracy?
Does he feel everyone needs to believe in what he says or else? I thought our philosophy was
built on choice and respecting other's opinions without retribution. He's supposed to set the example, not become a statistic.
Let's see what happens. I'm sure he will go unpunished, not that anyone else would have that same treatment.

Crime Story Disheartening

Editor:
I found the article "City's crime ranking skewed"( Reading Eagle,Oct 31) disheartening and naive.

Mayor Tom McMahon is attributing the demise of a once-beautiful city to car thefts?I wish that was our worst problem. If auto theft is the most common crime in Reading, I would imagine that the mayor and police are working aggressively on the problem.

This was not my experience when my car was stolen. When the car turned up, I asked the police if they would be lifting fingerprints. their reply was a chuckling," We don't do that here."

Common sense tells me that the people who steal cars probably commit other crimes. Wouldn't it be a good idea to have their fingerprints in the system?
My great aunt, Greta Gougler, was raped and murdered during a home invasion in 2002. Her murder was touted by officials to be a wake-up call for the city in a effort to combat crime.

I regret to say four years later I don't see much improvement.

All crime in Reading has increased due to the drug epidemic.
Yet no where in the article did McMahon mention drugs. It's time to face reality and deal with the root of the problem.

Republican City Committee Condems Mayor, Calls for Prosecution

Reading- The Reading Republican City Committee voted to approve a statement condemning the stealing of political campaign signs by Reading Mayor Thomas McMahon and calling upon authorities to prosecute him under the law, the vote occured at the Committee's regular meeting Thursday.
Although the city Republicans have not taken an official position on the proposed trash referendum, they were alarmed by the theft of political signs by an elected official. " Stealing signs is not only a crime, it is undemocratic. It is unacceptable for anyone to steal signs, but especially a mayor, who is responsible for enforcing the law,"declared William F. Cinfici, Chairman of the Reading Republican City Committee.

A Letter from your private trash hauler

Dear City Voter: On November 7th, you will be going out to vote (yes) or (no) for municipal trash collection. As a private hauler, I do not have the money to fight City Hall, but I do a good job for you and among all of us haulers we have given more than 100 years of service to you. The problem with City Hall is they do not want to offer a service to you but they want to make money.
Example: City Hall created the Water Authority not to provide a service to you but rather to make money off of you. The Water Authority was created by City Hall to have a hidden tax increase. When the city needs money, they have the Water Authority increase its fees. When you want to complain to City Hall about the increase, our politicians say "Oh that's the Water Authority. We have nothing to do with their increase."This is not true.City Hall and the Water Authority dare you to challenge their rates. The city wants to increase our sewer fees again and the sewer bills have already been increased 105%
The city needs money because City Hall spends irresponsibly!!

If you vote yes for municipal trash collection, you will be voting for the creation of another authority that answers to no one except City Hall. If we, the private trash haulers, are forced out of business, you will have no one to turn to and City Hall will find a way to create new hidden costs to pass along to you.
We, as haulers, know how to provide good service. The city could learn from us, but as always, they want to reward the criminals who dump trash illegally by making the good people pay for the crimes of the bad ones.

Vote No to Municipal Trash

Tom McMahon (Shame on You)

Mayor McMahon , Please apoligize to the residents of Reading. I hope this isn't a pattern for all Democrats.

Rememeber, Senator Kerry , and now Mayor McMahon. Mayor Tom admitted to stealing political signs and throwing them away.

Mr. Boscov, I hope you talked to Mayor Tom about this blunder.
