Article missed one thing

Reading Eagle article on Saturday December 29th,2007 by Don Spatz page B#1, missed one thing. How much police overtime was spent surrounding the Sovereign Center events.

My concern is not that these venues are a good thing, but how much does it really cost the taxpayer to have them. Please, let the citizens of Reading know the total story. Thank you

Article in December 31st Reading Eagle

At Wilson, a name is part of the game page B1. I proposed doing this at George field over two years ago. My colleagues did not agree with me.

If all school districts did this maybe school taxes could at least stay at their current rates.

Simple Wisdom:

" When recalled or discovered again in familiar surroundings, memorable words, whether funny or dramatic, weighty or featherlight, prompt a smile or a lump in the throat, reflecting bygone days with fresh joy."

This is worth reading

Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change.

Its a great day

Smile at a total stranger today and make them happy. I know this is hard for many people to do.

Please try this at least once and you will be happy for at least (1) hr.

A life spent making mistakes is not only honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.

Simple Wisdom

" The best way to free ourselves from our limitations is to first recognize them."

Dr. Ralph C. Geigle

I had several opportunities to hear Dr. Geigle speak. I was always impressed at how he could keep you interested when he gave a speech.

Superintendent's Message in 1970

There are conditions in this modern world that will need to be reckoned with.

Today the world is changing so rapidly that we cannot train to meet a given situation. We must educate people to cope with whatever changes may occur-- and there are only three things about the future that are certain: It won't be like the past, it won't be like we think it is going to be, and the rate of change will be faster than ever before.

You have acted and sacrificed so that you can be better prepared for this world of change.

A philosopher who was in, but not of, America and was always a keen observer of American life, George Santayana, once said:

" To be an American is of itself almost a moral ambition, an education and a career."

You have acted and sacrificed so that you can be part of that America--- in fact be a living symbol of the dream abiding in further education-- now so much a part of our great country.

I wish you good luck and may God's blessings go with you.

New Lights @ Ceiling Tiles at the Geigle

When you go to the next basketball game please check out the new energy efficient lights. The school district also replaced the old dirty ceiling tiles.

The Pagoda

I would like to see a restaurant at this location for $15,000,000 dollars. I think we need people like Marlin Miller and Al Boscov to help with this project.

Interesting Quote

I posted the last 1970 motto because I thought it would make people think. I found this in a night school yearbook named The Owl.

The Indispensable Man

Sometime when you're feeling important
Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified in the room;
Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these humble instructions,
And see how they humble your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out,and the hole that's remaining
Is a measure of how you'll be missed.
You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the waters galore;
But stop, and you'll find that in no time
It looks quite the same as before,

The moral of this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can;
Be proud of yourself,but remember
There's no indispensable man.

Thank you

A special thanks to the 55,000 plus hits to my blog site.

What a Shame

It's a real shame when people are ignorant to what is happening in Reading,Pa. Those same people have to name call because they can't except the truth. Just look who is leaving Reading and then look at who is moving in. The name calling is happening on my comment section. People please have a great day!

Where is Tom McMahon?

I would hope he isn't in hiding. Certainly he wants to tell everyone how our crime is improving in the city.

Ann Coulter and a movie

The Goggle Works hopefully will book Ann Coulter's movie if she makes one.

Anonymous people who post comments

Did you ever wonder why people are afraid to attach their name to the comment they leave? Ask yourself Why???

Principles and Convictions

Remember, the people who change the way they vote. Ask yourself if they have principles and convictions.

People caught on camera

Two students were caught by the new cameras that I proposed. One student was taking a $1,500 computer out of the school. The other student was caught in a fight on 13th street.

People Relax and breathe deep

The only reason The Goggle Works comment was made was because you left wing liberals just keep trying to get on my nerves.

Talking About Corruption Can Help Prevent It

The Darden Perspective: Understanding Corruption leads to dialogue, And dialogue is always the first step toward a solution. Three questions #1 What is the difference between lobbying and corruption? #2 Does doing business in a corrupt-rife country demand or justify softening of principles? #3 Does it distort or negate principles?

Suggestion for The Goggle Works

The suggestion that I made was to increase traffic flow to The Goggle Works. The Goggle Works needs to become self sufficient to survive. This is the reason for my suggestion to look at having different movies. My brain doesn't need a movie to think. I can do that reading a book.

Thoughts for teachers in the coming New Year

I want you all to realize it is not what you teach but how you teach. When you think that progress isn't being made, I want you to spend some extra time with that student who is upset about anything.

You will realize very quickly that those students will improve when they see the time that is being spent with them. Please, show them that you really care. It's not what you say, but it is the action that you take that can change a student for a lifetime.

Thank you Sincerely, Keith Stamm

Diamond in the rough

The recent acquisition of the Jewish Community center will be one of the best moves that the Reading School Board made in 2007. This was the only piece of property in the city that was already not on the tax rolls.

When you analyze the property you quickly realize the potential for this property. #1 is 17 acres,#2 is a building with a cafeteria, auditorium, gym #3 plenty of room for expansion of classrooms.

The potential of another school on the remaining acres. It was another proud moment of my presidency.

President comments on his past year

I enjoyed being school board president of the Reading School District. I am proud of the leadership role I played in the Millmont elementary school, and the St. Joesph renovation for our new Citadel project. The other thing that I am proud about is the creation of an ad hoc security committee.

Recent votes on this project and additional security cameras that I originally suggested really have made the effort worth it.

Thank you Keith R. Stamm Board President
