Abraham Lincoln Tells it Best

" You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

- Abraham Lincoln

Editors Opinion Page July 24th, 2008 $100,000,000 Bond

I agree with this Reading Eagle Editor's opinion but please look at the same situation with the Reading School District. At the last Special Board meeting ( July 15th,2008) I raised concerns of Mike Setley Bond Councel and School Director John Santoro being related. The least that should have been done would be to diclose this information to the public and Director Santoro abstain from the vote.

Trip To Vegas

Currently three school board members are scheduled to go Karen McCree,Pierre Cooper, Joesph Breton

July 15th, 2008 Special Board meeting

I disclosed that Bond council Mike Setley and School Director John Santoro are related. The correct thing to do would be to abstain from his Vote (John Santoro).

The Board approved borrowing $100,000,000 BY A 7-2 MARGIN. Stamm and Cinfici voting No! They are the only Republicans on the Reading School Board. Taxes here we come! They will tell you not to worry that they didn't raise them in (5) YEARS.

Would another School District lower taxes if they received the same amount of help from the State of Pa.

Las Vegas Here We Come

Special school board meeting on Tuesday July 15th. In business that wasn't reported in the Reading Eagle. The board approved a trip to Vegas by 7-2 with Stamm and Cinfici voting No. I asked Board president McCree if she would share her winnings with the district???

Nelson Diaz Jr. Letter To The Editor

Young's Column Right On Target

Editor: Mary Young's column was much needed("Free Obama pass gets flunking grade for school district."Reading Eagle June 21,2008

The Reading taxpayers and the Berks County community need to be aware of the constant fiscal irresponsibility of the Reading School Board.

I am an ardent supporter of Sen. Barrack Obama, and drove all the way from college to hear him speak because I knew it was going to be an historic moment not only in my life but in the lives of others as well in the Reading area.
However there is no possible explanation why the Obama campaign should have gotten a free pass to the event.
The school board claims it was an experience for the students. But what it taught the few students who attended is how to be fiscally irresponsible with taxpayer money.
More columns need to be written about this school board, which has taken taxpayer money and spent it where it does not need to be spent instead of where it needs to be. The district knows it needs all the money it can get, and there is know reason the campaign should have been exempt. Nelson Diaz Jr.
