School Director Trips Must Be Stopped On The State Level

The abuse of these trips will continue until your State Representatives and State Senators change the law. They will not change this law quickly because they are also entitled to taxpayer funded trips.

PENNY WISE and POUND FOOISH

Well I have watched and listened to this outlandish babble long enough! If you believe for one minute that there is nothing learned at these conferences think again. Just as in any work environment that has sales conferences or product conferences (and yes I understand the difference that the taxpayers are paying for these) as an example these school board members should be bringing back information to help your school district run better and also educate the students better in these NCLB days. While I don't agree with taxpayers paying for school board members high speed internet I do believe their trips to STATE AND NATIONAL conferences should not only be a benefit to the board member but they should very much be a benefit to the district. I KNOW some districts encourage their entire boards to go! I am talking about "liberals and conservatives" alike. They get the benefit. Let's stop putting our heads in the sand and realize that the money spent in education can be spent learning how to better run our schools, not just saved by turning out the lights. If we turn off too many lightbulbs we may not be able to make our students bright! I guess the reality is you are more worried about the lights and the conferences than the education of the students in the Reading School District

Keith,

You're on the right path. Everybody should be working with you to save money. There is alot of waste at the administrative and board level while those working with the students are being denied basic supplies and needs. Some of the board members and administrators need a reality check. This is not a wealthy school district, but if money is spent freely it should be done to benefit the students. Priority should be the students.

In reference to trips taken by school board members/administrators:
Two board members/administrators, most probably, can bring back the necessary information from a conference to benefit the district. Why not send one person that has not attended and one that has attended a prior conference/convention. Why are we sending the same board members over and over again? What information have they shared in the past with non-attendees? Do they have written reports? How is the taxpayer money being spent? Do they have documentation to justify their expenses? Hopefully, the board members/administrators are truly trying to educate themselves to benefit the district at these conferences/conventions. One would hope that they aren't using the taxpayer money as an excuse to vacation, eat, drink and be merry!

Keep up the good work Keith!
