Editor: After reading your account of the Hal Baker/Dante Santoni debate, I have decided to vote for Baker (Baker,Santoni trade accusations in debate for 126th District seat, Reading Eagle,Oct.18th.
If Baker decided his own pay as acting county administrator, which I seriously doubt,
then I'd say he was being very generous to the county. His predecessor, Gary Henderson, was making approximately $13,000 more than the salary Baker received to do the same job, a whopping 15 percent reduction in cost to the county.
This hardly reeks of greed. In industry, when we're occasionally forced to fill a high-level position on an interim basis,we typically pay a premium for the service. We'd be thrilled with a 15 percent discount.
The 15 percent sounds familar. Oh yes, isn't that how much of a raise Santoni voted to give himself ?
The attack on Baker's voting record was not supported with any hard evidence. Can Santoni provide the basis for this accusation? I suspect not, probably because it's simply not true. These appear to be groundless accusations.
