Mr Stamm -
Maybe you out to stop worrying about a flag "outside" of the high school for the past 3 months and worry about what is going on "inside" your high school.
It is a shame what this city and school district has come to. It is an embarrassment when people outside of our town comment on it because we are constantly in the news with negative publicity.
I fear for the teachers and staff that have to work in an environment that is run by the students and not by the administration. It is deplorable.
Adding security guards and cameras to you building is not a solution. Enforcing behaviour and school rules and policies is how you will gain control of this school district. And the school board and administration have to stand up and stand behind their faculty.
Today's article about a teacher being hurt outside Northeast is a perfect example. It happened shortly "after" classes began. What were those students doing outside the school when classes had already started?
Somebody better figure out something quick before we experience a fatal event!!!!
It sounds as if you have more important problems to address at RHS than an unlit flag! Get serious! You really need to get your priorities in order! Especially if you have any hopes of being Mayor of Reading, 'cause Reading's problems are much much bigger than illuminating flags at City Hall at night!
Dear Keith Stamm-
Good job on getting the flag above RHS illuminated. Those of us fighting to keep this country safe appreciate your efforts.
That being said, I'd put this whole episode in the category of "mom, apple pie, and flag waving".
To be an effective mayor, you won't have time to chase low-hanging fruit (such as lighting flags), no matter how great the potential publicity.
Significant change requires strong initial analysis and relentless execution. Headlines and publicity aren't a part of the formula.
I am suggesting that you skip this mayoral race. You're a good candidate, but you'll be an even stronger candidate if you spend the next 4 years getting the RSD into tip-top shape (it will take at least that long).
Fix the school = get elected.
My two cents.
